A daily practice plan
Twenty to thirty minutes a day is enough. Split it like this:
- Warm-up, 5 minutes: one lesson from the typing tutor, focusing on keys you get wrong.
- Accuracy drill, 10 minutes: a 3 or 5 minute test on a paragraph with highlighting on. Target 97% accuracy.
- Speed burst, 5 minutes: three 1-minute tests on the random words test, pushing a little faster than comfortable.
- Exam rehearsal, 10 minutes: two or three times a week, the full simulation for your exam from exam typing tests.

Habits that make practice work
- Keep a fixed time. The same 20 minutes every day beats random long sessions.
- Never look down. Cover your hands with a cloth for a week if you must.
- Sit at the right height: elbows at about 90 degrees, screen at eye level, feet flat.
- Track it. My progress charts every test you take in this browser.
Frequently asked questions
How long should I practise typing every day?
20 to 30 minutes of focused practice is enough for steady progress. Longer sessions help less once you get tired and start making mistakes.
Is online typing practice enough for exams?
Yes, as long as you practise on a physical keyboard at exam length, with highlighting off, at least a few times a week before the exam.
Should I practise speed or accuracy first?
Accuracy. Speed comes naturally once your fingers know where every key is; mistakes learned early are hard to unlearn.
